Shillong, Khanapara and Juwai Teer: How the Games Differ

Readers new to Teer often ask why there are so many games with so many names. This guide sorts them out: what Shillong, Khanapara and Juwai refer to, how the morning, day and night games fit into one day, and what actually changes from one game to the next.

Three names, eight games

Shillong, Khanapara and Juwai are the three names attached to the games, and the games sit in three groups by time of day.

  • Morning games: Shillong Morning, Juwai Morning, Khanapara Morning.
  • Day games: Juwai Teer, Shillong Teer, Khanapara Teer.
  • Night games: Shillong Night and Shillong Night 2.

Each game has its own FR and SR, its own record in Previous Results and its own page on TeerOnline. They are never combined into one list, because they are separate shootings.

What the names refer to

  • Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, and Teer has been associated with the city for many decades. A 2024 World Archery feature places the Shillong shooting at the archery ground on Furlong Polo Road, near the old polo ground.
  • Khanapara and Juwai (also written Jowai) name the other two games. We do not state a ground for them, because we could not confirm one from a source we can cite. Be careful when searching: Khanapara is also the name of an area of Guwahati in Assam, and results pages for other places can use similar names.

Where the ground or organiser of a game is known from a published report, we say so. Where it is not, we leave it out. Reports on the Shillong game name the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association, with 12 affiliated clubs, as the body that organises the shooting. We do not state who organises the other games.

The first date is the earliest day for which our Previous Results hold a row. It shows how far our own record goes back, not when the game began, and a game may have started earlier than our record. The gaps are worked out from the published times.

Same-day comparison from our records, 30 October 2026:

  • Juwai Teer: FR 36, SR 94
  • Shillong Teer: FR 60, SR 97
  • Khanapara Teer: FR 99, SR 45

The three results are unrelated, even though the games run within a couple of hours of each other.

Morning games

The three morning games start the day. Shillong Morning and Juwai Morning both have FR at 10:30 AM and SR at 11:30 AM. Khanapara Morning runs half an hour later, with FR at 11:00 AM and SR at 12:00 PM. Unlike the day games, the morning games are not normally off on Sunday, so Sunday results for the three names are found on the Morning pages.

What actually differs from one game to the next

  1. Time of day. The first and most obvious difference.
  2. Gap between rounds. It runs from 35 minutes (Khanapara Teer) to an hour (Shillong Teer and the morning, night games).
  3. Sunday. Only the three day games are normally off.
  4. Length of record. Shillong Teer has the longest history in our records, with more than 3,600 days of results. Shillong Night 2 has the shortest, with about 1,100.
  5. Separate series. A result in one game says nothing about another. Reading one game's numbers as a clue to another's is a mistake, because nothing connects them.
